Many hobbyists use "Building the New Shay" to refer to construction articles for a Shay locomotive (geared steam locomotive) — possibly from Live Steam & Outdoor Railroading magazine or a similar publication by Kozo Hiraoka (author of Building the Shay , Building the Heisler , etc.).
