Jotun Batch Certificate -

Coating inspectors rely on batch certificates to verify that the materials being used match the approved project specification. During an audit, the absence of a batch certificate is a non-conformance. Inspectors also cross-check batch numbers between drums to ensure no unauthorized mixing of lots.

Before opening a drum, an applicator checks the certificate to ensure the product hasn’t expired and that viscosity matches spray equipment requirements. If a batch shows borderline results, the applicator may adjust thinner amounts or application technique accordingly. jotun batch certificate

Long-term warranty claims often require full traceability. If a coating fails after five years, the asset owner must produce batch certificates to prove that approved material was correctly applied. Without these certificates, the warranty is void. Jotun’s own liability protection also hinges on maintaining these records. Traceability and the Digital Shift Historically, batch certificates were paper documents included with each shipment. Today, Jotun has embraced digital traceability. Using a mobile device, an operator can scan a QR code or enter the batch number on Jotun’s website or app to instantly retrieve the original certificate. This digital shift reduces fraud, eliminates lost paperwork, and allows real-time verification at the point of application. Some large projects now require that all batch certificates be uploaded to a shared digital portal before application begins. Limitations and User Responsibility While powerful, the batch certificate is not a substitute for field testing. It confirms the condition of the coating at the time of manufacturing and under laboratory conditions . It does not account for storage degradation (e.g., if drums were left in extreme heat), incorrect mixing of base and hardener, or contamination. Therefore, the certificate is a starting point—not an endpoint—for quality assurance. Responsible users still perform wet-film thickness checks, adhesion tests, and environmental monitoring on site. Conclusion The Jotun Batch Certificate exemplifies how meticulous documentation supports high-performance industrial coatings. It transforms a drum of liquid into a known, verifiable, and traceable engineering material. For Jotun, it represents a commitment to quality control. For the applicator and inspector, it is an essential field tool. For the asset owner, it is a legal and warranty safeguard. In an industry where coating failure can lead to catastrophic corrosion, the humble batch certificate stands as a silent but indispensable guardian of asset integrity. As digital systems evolve, this document will only become more integrated, accessible, and vital to the global coatings profession. Coating inspectors rely on batch certificates to verify
