Red Dead Redemption 2 is a massive game. You can spend hours hunting a legendary animal, robbing a train, or just riding through the heartlands. The last thing you want is to lose that progress because you didn’t understand the save system.

If you’re playing RDR2 on PC, here’s everything you need to know about saving your game manually, forcing auto-saves, and even backing up your save files. Unlike some games, RDR2 does not let you save during an active mission. You’ll see a notification: “You cannot save right now.”
